In the UAE, people would rather send a WhatsApp message than fill in a form. That makes click-to-WhatsApp ads on Facebook and Instagram one of the most effective ways for clinics, real estate agents, restaurants and service businesses to get leads.

But there is a common problem: the ads get taps, and the WhatsApp inbox stays empty. Here is why that happens and how to fix it.

Why taps don't become chats

When someone taps your ad, WhatsApp opens. If the chat box is empty, the person has to think of what to write, in the right language, to a business they just discovered. Many simply close the app.

We have seen campaigns with several taps and zero conversations for exactly this reason. The ad was fine. The step after the tap was broken.

Fix 1: Always give people something to send

Meta gives you two ways to do this in the ad's message template:

Pre-filled message

A ready-made message appears in the chat box, so the person only has to press send. Keep it short and natural, for example: "Hi, I'd like to know more about your consultation."

FAQ buttons (often better)

Instead of one message, show up to five one-tap questions, with an optional greeting. People pick the question that matches their need, and the chat starts instantly. FAQs also tell you what each lead is interested in before you reply.

Tips for FAQ buttons:

  • Write questions the ad doesn't already answer, so the chat adds something new.
  • Always include a direct option such as "I'd like to book a consultation".
  • For bilingual audiences, use Arabic and English questions, but keep one language per question. Mixing both in one line breaks the text direction.
  • Keep each question short and clear.

Fix 2: Reply fast

A WhatsApp lead cools down quickly. Set up a greeting message, and make sure someone on your team checks the inbox throughout the day. Replying within minutes, not hours, makes a big difference to how many chats turn into bookings.

Fix 3: Let Meta find the right people

Even the best message flow can't help if too few people see your ad. Very narrow targeting (tiny location circles, language filters, one placement only) can push your cost per 1,000 views several times higher than normal. Meta's Andromeda delivery system works best with broad audiences, Advantage+ settings and a variety of creatives.

Fix 4: Measure the right thing

In Ads Manager, look at messaging conversations started, not just link clicks. A click is a tap; a conversation is a lead. Then track what happens after: how many chats became calls, bookings and paying customers.

A real example

A Dubai medical and dental center we work with had spent about 348 AED with zero WhatsApp chats. The pre-filled message had been removed, and the targeting was very narrow. After adding FAQ buttons with a bilingual greeting and opening up the targeting, the first conversations arrived within 24 hours, and the cost to reach people fell by about 65%.
